Social Media Trends in 2017 That Have Blown Us Away
Every day when we wake up, there is something new happening on social media. Social media has become an umbrella term for every old and new app that promotes online interaction. With technological innovation at an all-time high, new features every day. For this list of social media trends, we have taken some of the most popular social media platforms and their brand new features. We are sure that this article will help you look at each of these platforms in a new light.
More tweeting with more characters
Although a little old, this update did not get the publicity it deserved. Twitter has officially increased its character limit from 140 to 280. People who always went over the character limit can now rejoice. After years of demanding, the Twitter universe has finally received what it had asked for.
Instagram & polls
If you are an avid Instagram user, you have probably seen the new poll feature that was rolled out recently. This feature allows users to add a poll with two options to their Instagram stories. Although some people use it for mundane questions like “Should I eat cake or not”, brands can leverage this in an entirely different way. They can gauge the reaction of their customers for brand new products, new designs or other new features.
Snapchat’s context cards
The context cards are Snapchat’s new gamble. We can’t say this new feature doesn’t impress us. They have partnered with companies like Trip Advisor and Foursquare to bring all the information about a restaurant, bar etc. at one place. Users will also be able to call for Uber, right through the app. Snapchat is slowly but surely taking over the world.
Twitter sports
Sports fans, time to rejoice! Twitter has added a brand new feature that allows users to look at tweets from specific games. While scrolling through the home screen, you also have the option of being able to look at a carousel of ongoing games. For sports fans who are also Twitter enthusiasts, this feature is a definite win.
Auto-Play on YouTube
We have all experienced Auto-play on Facebook and were annoyed with it. This is because we do not want random videos playing as we scroll through our newsfeed. However, YouTube seems to have modified this feature a bit. As you scroll through YouTube’s home screen on your phone, videos will play on mute and with subtitles. We don’t know how useful this feature is going to be, but as of now it seems like fun.
LinkedIn’s recruitment tool
Pushing forward with its recruitment tools, LinkedIn has come up with Talent Insights. This service allows users to access two reports: the Talent Pool report that talks about potential candidates, schools that churn out potential candidates, and where to find them. The other report, Company report focuses on what a company needs to do to hire the most suitable candidates.
We are already looking forward to next year when these social media giants will come up with many more interesting features. Till then, we have these features to play with.
