A flat lay is a picture taken of a set of objects on a flat surface. The picture is usually taken from the top, or from a slight angle, achieving a bird’s eye view of the intended surface. There is no minimum number of items required for a flat lay, but a good flat lay picture contains at least 3-4 items with one item being the focus.

Another essential thing about taking a flat lay is that there should be no shadows visible in the picture itself and therefore, it is quite essential to have the right type of lighting.
